'It only benefited Vladimir Putin': CNN analyst shuts down Trump Oval Office chaos praise

An impassioned defense of Donald Trump's conduct last Friday where he berated Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky as "disrespectful" and demanded a thank you was swiftly and brutally dismantled on CNN on Sunday morning.
During the panel segment at the end of "State of the Union," former Trump communications adviser Erin Maguire claimed that Elon Musk doing a bang-up job rooting out fraud and waste, while taking heat off Trump, before she moved on to the contentious Oval Office press availability that shocked the world.
According to Maguire, "There needed to be limits to what we were doing with Ukraine, so again, him being the foil there, setting the stage for Trump to be able to say, 'Yeah, actually, that's right. You should be more appreciative about what we've been able to do to help you maintain your sovereignty and fight off the Russians'. So both of these can be great foils for Trump to stand there and cut the deal and make the government small."

'Well, but there is no deal when it comes to Ukraine," CNN commentator Xochitl Hinojosa pointed out.
"Actually the only person, well, the only person who benefited from the outburst on Friday was Vladimir Putin," she added as Maguire smirked. "It did not benefit Ukraine, it did not benefit America, and I know that the White House likes to take a victory lap on that."
