'Soaked in animus': Critics slam Supreme Court for handing Trump 'big victory'

President Donald Trump scored a victory Tuesday as the Supreme Court ruled 6-3 to allow the administration to enforce a ban on transgender troops serving in the military.
The New York Times reported the "ruling was brief, unsigned and gave no reasons.
"The court’s three liberal members — Justices Sonia Sotomayor, Elena Kagan and Ketanji Brown Jackson — noted dissents but provided no reasoning," the report added.
Paula Reid, CNN’s chief legal affairs correspondent, called it "a big victory for the Trump administration."
"Now under this ban, service members who have a current diagnosis or history of or exhibit symptoms consistent with gender dysmorphia will be processed for separation from military service," Reid said. "The Pentagon will also not allow transgender Americans to join any branch of the military."
Reid explained that the administration's "long game" is to get all of its legally-challenged cases before the Supreme Court "in the hope that most, if not all of them, will ultimately be upheld."
Reid said that Trump's lawyers "kept telling me that they were confident, if they could get this policy and many others before the conservative supermajority at the Supreme Court, that they would be allowed to proceed."

On social media, LGBTQ+ journalist Erin Reed wrote, "In an absolutely devastating ruling, the Supreme Court has allowed the transgender military ban to go into effect. This is shocking - the ban explicitly called transgender people dishonorable for being transgender. It is as clear as day soaked in animus."
"#SCOTUS affirms Trump's ban on #Transgender service members," posted columnist Sophia A. Nelson. "This is a huge win for Trump. MAGA, I keep telling you, ya 'll read 2024 all wrong. It was never the eggs, or groceries, or gas, or... It was #DEI, Transgender, #LGBTQ+ issues, and culture wars."
Broadcaster Dean Obeidallah posted, "Per Donald Trump a patriotic transgender American is not allowed to serve in our military but the Secretary of Defense can be a drunk, incompetent bigot who intentionally shares classified military secrets on unsecured phones with friends and family."
